The Aiken County Council of Mathematics Teachers (ACCTM) is the association of math teachers in Aiken County, South Carolina. ACCTM is affiliated with the SCCTM and NCTM. Membership is open to all math teachers in Aiken County.

ACCTM to hold lunch meeting

The spring meeting of ACCTM has been scheduled for lunch at Ryan’s Steakhouse on March 27 at 1:00 pm. The plan is to have Fran Bush from Booklovers’ Bookstore give a talk on books that can be used in the mathematics classroom. For example, there is a children’s book called, “The King’s Chessboard” by David Birch which helps students understand more about what exponential growth really means.

Fall meeting to feature help with writing grants

Come join your fellow math teachers for lasagna, and learn a little about grant writing while you are there. This year’s fall meeting is October 23, 2008 at the Ruth Patrick Science Center. We will begin with dinner at 5:30 P.M.

ACCTM announces professional development scholarship

The Barbara Sproull Professional Development Scholarship of the Aiken County (SC) Council of Teachers of Mathematics provides financial assistance of up to $100 annually to two teachers and one teaching-intern pursuing professional development in mathematics. The professional development may include workshops, conferences, or graduate courses with an emphasis on mathematics. The funding for this grant may be used for registration, room and board, and/or transportation expenses for PD during the 2008-2009 academic year. Applications are due by October 10.
