Summary of ACCTM Council Meeting on 9/11/2008
This summary was prepared by Renee Johnson, President of ACCTM.
- Officer Rotation: After much discussion it was decided that all officers would continue to serve this year. A flyer, containing job descriptions and time commitment, would be passed out at our Fall meeting to see if anyone would like to sign up to serve as a officer. We will then bring a new slate of officers to the spring meeting to be voted on. All positions will be up for election in the spring according to my records. We may want to make sure some of the current officers stay on the council and just rotate to a new position and bring in a few new people just for consistency for our organization.
- Newsletter: Debbie Orsini has volunteered to produce the newsletter for the 2008-2009 year since Dianne Roaden asked to be relieved of this because of personal things she has going on this year. Bridget was going to forward copies of last Fall’s and/or Spring’s newsletters to Debbie so she would have the form to use for this year’s newsletter.
- New Officer Position: It was decided that the webmaster position would be added to our list of officers. Worth also, brought out that about $100 would soon be due again to cover the cost of the web site. He was to get with Mary Robinson about the best way to have this paid. Worth also, said he could put a link so that all officers could be contacted by e-mail directly from our website. He would not put our names just our positions and then it would link to our e-mail addresses, which would be easy to change as new people rotate into positions.
- New Members: Renee J. went to new teacher orientation and pasted out treat bags and recruited 20 new members for ACCTM. They each will be given free membership for the 2008-2009 school year. Treat bags were given to each new member at a total cost of about $29. Renee will submit receipts for the treat bags to Mary R. for re-imbursement.
- ACCTM Fall Meeting: Our meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, October 23, at 5:30. Bridget was checking on using the Ruth Patrick Center and also having them cater the meal. Bridget did say if we used Ruth Patrick Center that there is not a charge but we might want to make a $25 donation to them. They would set up and clean up for us. Debbie O. was checking on availability of Aiken Career Center for that night also. If we used Aiken Career Center we would have to set up and clean up. We also, would have to have the food brought in maybe from Mrs. Ira’s or somewhere else. Renee and Mary had contacted Jen Vaughn about doing a grant writing session, but she said she did not have the time this fall to commit to us for this. Bridget was going to check with Ms. Alice Kirkland at USC-Aiken about speaking on Grant Writing and if she is not available then Bridget said she could lead a session on this with help from some of our officers (Debi R., Patty T., Debbie O.) It was discussed that the session would involve staring to write a grant and showing the website used for the EIA Grants. We discussed that in the Spring Meeting that we would possibly bring in Fran Bush to do a book display and discuss some of the authors that write books related to math.
- Fall Meeting Details: Debi Rood will do table decorations and save receipts to turn in to Mary for re-imbursement since we use the decorations as door prizes. Nancy will bring table cloths and we will use them if they fit the tables in the room we decide to use for the meeting. All officers will bring a door prize except Debi Rood.
- Scholarships: It was decided that we would offer 2-3 $100 scholarships this fall since we have about $1,300 in our treasury. The deadline to apply will be October 9 to give us time to process the applications before our fall meeting. Worth was going to put this announcement on the website and upload an updated application that Bridget or Renee will forward to him.
- Treasurer Report: There is about $1,300 in our account. We have several officers that need to pay dues for this year based on a report that someone had at the meeting.
- T-shirts: We still have lots of shirts to try to sell. This needs to be advertised in the newsletter that they are great to wear to the math conferences.
